Comedian Anthony Atamanuik, who Rolling Stone previously deemed as the nation’s best Donald Trump impersonator, will soon host a Comedy Central late-night show under the guise of the president.
The President Show premieres April 27th and will air Thursdays at 11:30 p.m. between The Daily Show and @midnight. Atamanuik, as Trump, announced the new program in a teaser video filmed aboard “Trump Force One.” “I’ll have the best guests, the most beautiful women, it’ll be so funny; the most funny show,” “Trump” promises.
In a statement, Atamanuik said, “Laughing at the President is a proud American tradition and we hope not to disappoint anyone in that department. I’d just like to thank Comedy Central for giving us this platform to speak truth to power and if we’re lucky, end up in prison!”
Comedy Central added, “In the world of The President Show, Trump is bypassing the crooked media by hosting a late-night show direct from the Oval Office. No unfair questions from reporters, no awkward photo ops with German ladies, and no bedtimes. Just a fun show where he can put his unique Trumpian spin on such late-night staples as desk segments, field pieces and guest interviews.”
Atamanuik’s Trump impersonation is well known among comedy fans, with fellow comics often lobbying for Atamanuik to replace Alec Baldwin on Saturday Night Live if that actor leaves the role.
Atamanuik previously brought his pitch-perfect impression to the Howard Stern Show, @midnight and a series of viral videos released prior to Election Day. During election season, Atamanuik also hosted a routinely sold-out show called Trump Dump.
“Atamanuik’s Trump imitation is not only perfect and riotously funny; it should be essential viewing for everyone in our country,” Judd Apatow told Rolling Stone in November, citing a poem Atamanuik read during the “Trump vs. Bernie” sketch as his favorite moment. “[The poem] reading is one of the greatest moments I’ve ever seen in comedy. It’s remarkable.”
